Knowing the fundamental basics of what it takes to win a game will help immensely.  Aside from testing the waters and learning the bare objective to Vainglory, we have broken down some essential tips to propel you to your next victory.

Learn The Heroes

It is essential that you begin to test out a series of heroes.  Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of a number of heroes is a huge asset.  Each hero has their own set of stats in terms of defense, strength, speed, and abilities. Familiarize yourself with a select few.

As you become more accustomed to their build, you will be able to support your team a lot more.  Not only that, but when you come across that hero on the opposing team, you are better suited to counter the team in that scenario.

Learning the heroes will also help you recognize late-game compositions.  During the tail end of each game, a winning component is the late-game compositions.  Depending on hero selection of the team, you may decide to push the enemy in a number of ways.  Knowing your hero’s role will be essential to providing that last ditch effort to take down the Vain Crystal.

Understanding Farming Rotations

Rotating through the jungle and capturing camps is a main component of the early game.  Familiarize yourself with the spawn times of each camp and what they offer.  If you are a crystal powered hero, you’ll want to push for the crystal buff spawn as soon as you can.

Weapon focused heroes should obviously focus on capturing the weapon camps.  This works the same way it does for crystal powered heroes.  While you are able to carry both buffs at once, it is not ideal as each buff is better utilized for the proper heroes.  You can donate the buff you may not need to an ally in this scenario.

A more general camp is the Healing Treant.  Gaining some much needed health buffs is essential to continue your rotation.  Be sure to recall often and utilize the gold you acquire along the way.

Along your rotations, always keep an eye for opportunities to deny the enemy team of their own buffs.  Counter-jungling, while risky will offer the same rewards to you, but deny the opposing team of their buffs which places them in a tricky spot.  To the same point, be aware of counter-junglers and be sure to use vision control in order to spot incoming attacks.

Capturing Dragons

While Vainglory 3v3 had the Kraken which could often turn the tide for losing players, Vainglory 5v5 has two dragons which are able to be captured.  During the game, players will recognize when each dragon spawns.

The first one is Blackclaw.  Blackclaw is a powerful mid-lane pushing force.  Once captured, Blackclaw will fly over mid-lane and attack the opposing team’s turrets.

During the later portion of the match, Ghostwing will appear.  As Blackclaw is a offensive powerhouse, Ghostwing on the other hand provides essential health and defensive barrier buffs.

Each dragon will require teamwork and coordination in order to properly capture in a timely manner.  If captured at the appropriate time, each dragon can provide much needed support and more often than not, set your team up for success in the long run.

Utilize Scout Cams

Scout cams are an essential tool to any player.  One of the most important aspects to winning a match is having vision of the field.  Each player has two rechargeable scout cams that when activated, enable the player to keep watch over that area.

Scout cams are best positioned near farming locations or each of the spawning dragons.  Placing cams in the jungle bushes near entrances will make sure you have map awareness at potential choke points.

As mentioned before, knowing the appropriate time to capture each dragon is key.  Scouting the dragon pit with a cam will allow you to keep watch of the dragon and ensure the enemy does not capture while you tend to other objective or are out of rotation.

Be aware that as your team are able to drop cams, so are your enemy.  Be sure to clear out any cams dropped by opponents, especially in high-traffic areas such as mid.  Scout cams are a powerful resource for gaining information.  Teams should look to apply flanking pressure on the enemy when possible.

These four tactics cover some very broad opportunities to maintain success.  Having the ability to multi-task and organize not only yourself, but your team composition will result in a greater chance of victory.
