World Gaming Network was able to catch up with Christopher “Detoxys” Doyle, professional NBA 2K player.
In 2K League’s inaugural season he played for the Raptors Uprising GC, putting up a ton of points and assists as one of the best Power Forwards in the game.
Detoxys shared his thoughts on 2K’s season and his experiences as an esports athlete with the organization.
What are your thoughts on the Raptors Uprising season?
Doyle: Season was a crazy experience, living in a house like this was crazy to all of us. There were six other guys. I had roommates back in college, but this was definitely special.
Going to New York to play every game in front of a studio audience, in front of thousands of viewers. We had a lot of fun, and it’s a shame that it’s coming to an end.
What are some of the goals that you have for next season?
Doyle: Obviously, the goal is to win a championship, but it starts with getting the right pieces and the right people to do so, obviously.
As far as I go, I definitely have to be more aggressive. I want to stay at big man for next year, I kind of bounced around with positions this year, but I want to stay at center or power forward, either one.
I definitely have to get more aggressive, and I’ve got to communicate more to my team, because I did have some comm problems, and being quiet. I definitely need to bring more energy to the team next year.
What are your plans for the off season?
Doyle: Obviously, 2K19 comes out in a few weeks.
I’m actually going back to the University of New Hampshire. I study marketing management, and I only have one semester left, so I’m going back to school to finish my degree, and I’ll have my degree by the start of next season.
Just to fall back on if I ever need it, but obviously I’m going to balance school and 2K, so I’ve got to stay at the top of my game for next year.
In NBA 2K19 many new mechanics are being introduced, is there anything that stands out for you, in terms of your game?
Doyle: As a big man, I think a lot about the rebounding, so you got to really guess with your left stick where the guy being boxed out is going to go, so that’s definitely different from past years. The new private matchmaking, that’s going to be cool, so you’ll be able to play whatever team you want, and set it up that way, so that’s going to be great.
I think that’s a big step for 2K.
Are there any shout outs that you want to give as you wrap up the season?
Big thank you to Raptors Uprising for believing in me. I had a lot of fun this year, I hope to come back.
A special thanks to Chris, MLSE and the Raptors Uprising for taking the time to chat and open up their training grounds at the Bell Fibe House. Be sure to follow the Raptors Uprising on twitter, instagram and twitch for the latest.
