I’ve put some tips to help you master shooting and passing in FIFA 18 that will help you bring home the win and kick some serious butt out on the pitch.

What types of shots can I take in FIFA 18 and when should I use them?

I am going to go over, what I feel are, the essential shots that you should master in FIFA 18. Let’s start out with the basic shot. This is done by pressing or holding O/B on the controller. The height of your shot will depend on how long you hold the shoot button down for.
Next, lets take a look at the finesse shot. This is an accurate shot that goes slightly to the side and then curves back around again. Its done by shooting while you are holding down R1/RB. By holding down the shoot button for a few seconds, you will give the ball enough power to get some air. If you are lucky, it’ll go right behind the goalie and in.
Now lets look at the chip shot. This shot goes over your opponent’s head via a quick arc. I find the chip shot to be most effective when it’s just myself and the goalie. My rule of thumb is to hold down the shoot button until I get about two bars of power. This ensures that the ball will go over his head and in. The chip shot can be executed by holding down L1/LB and pressing the shot button.

Next, there is the low shot. This is the shot that should be your default shot when close to the goal. By tapping O/B a second time after shooting you’ll perform this kick. It can be a bit tricky at first. If you want to fake your opponent out, you can fake a shot. Just press O/B then X/A and any direction on the left analog stick.
Finally, if you are near the goal and the ball is by your head, try doing a header. Simply by pressing X/A, Square/X, or O/B

Essential passes and the best scenarios to use them

Passing and shooting go hand in hand. In order to get the ball to your opponent’s goal, you have to pass the ball. If you are going to win, then you having to have a strong passing game.
The first pass that you should master is the short pass. This is used between you and a teammate when there aren’t any opposing teammates between the two of you. To do this, just press X/A. Alternatively, if you have a defender between you and your teammate, you can go for a lob pass. By pressing Square/X, it’ll lob the ball over your opponent’s head.
The through ball pass is the next pass that we will talk about. This pass is used when your teammate is between two defenders. To do this, you press Triangle/Y. Going hand and hand with the through ball pass is the threaded through ball pass. This allows you to push the ball further ahead and is a perfect pass to use when you have a teammate ahead of you with no one in front of them and is close to the goal. To do this, you hold R1/RB while performing a through ball.

The next pass you will want to focus on and master is the driven lob pass/cross. The good thing about this type of pass is that they are intercepted less often. However, they are a tad tricky and sometimes don’t land as close to your teammate as you might want it to. To perform this pass, you hold R1/RB while pressing Square/X.
Quite possibly my favourite pass in all of FIFA 18 is when you dummy a pass. This is perfect when there are defenders on your teammate’s side. It allows the ball to go through your teammate’s leg instead of in front of the player.
