This year’s entry into EA’s NHL franchise signals a changing of the guard – it’s all about the young superstars. This year Edmonton Oilers’ phenom Connor McDavid graces the cover of NHL 18, bringing with him all new controls and features for a new NHL era.
The new creative attack controls will help you keep your opponents guessing at what tricks you have up your sleeve. Your offensive stick handling arsenal has been bolstered with between-the-legs shooting, one-handed dekes, back-handed toe-drags and the new ability to link your moves together for an epic finish. The new creative attacks will have you tickling the twine in highlight reel fashion.
Defensive Skill Stick
The new offensive options can be countered with a new skill stick that offers more control than ever to stop rushing opponents. Your stick can now be used to target poke checks, keep your stick extended to break up a play and sweep your stick for greater coverage of the zone.
Inspired after the real-life fan favourite 3 vs 3 overtime, NHL Threes doubles down on open ice action. Threes is geared towards those looking for a fast, arcade style hockey fix with a ton of goals, sweet dangles and bone rattling hits. No offsides or icing mean the action pushes on at a fast rate than ever, even penalties are decided by a penalty shot, adding to the intensity.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new mode is the campaign, which has you competing in a circuit against other teams. An added bonus, as you defeat teams you unlock rewards like uniforms, logos and players.
Threes can be played online or offline, co-op or competitive. It’s a new over the top way to experience hockey.
With the Vegas Golden Knights entering the scene, NHL 18 gives you the opportunity to partake in your very own Expansion Draft. The revamped mode will allow you to run an authentic draft, building your roster and forming the 32nd team in the NHL. If you decide to play as an existing franchise you can even submit your own protected players list and watch as the NHL you know is reformed by the draft.
The franchise mode features plenty of new locations to expand your team to, including cities in North America and in Europe. Once you’ve picked out the perfect spot you can use the new Creation Zone to build an arena, design a uniform and for the first time, your very own mascot.
NHL 18 will also give you the opportunity to lace up as the Golden Knights before they hit the ice for regular season play. The team will have up to date rosters, uniforms and will allow you to play in the brand new T-Mobile Arena.
Keep your head up and your stick on the ice, NHL 18 rolls across the blue line on September 15th
