Injustice 2 features the largest roster yet in a NetherRealm Studios fighter, and many players are on the hunt for the villain or hero that they play as. To help you choose who is best for you, I’ve put together a brief character breakdowns.

The first piece of advice Caboose offers up is to pay close attention to the character selection trends in the pro fighting scene, “It’s important to pay attention and see who the pros are playing as, and what offensive and defensive strategies they are using. It’s a great idea to watch streams on twitch and YouTube for hints.”

One pro that is very high on Caboose’s list of streamers to watch is Dominique “SonicFox” McLean. SonicFox is the most dominant NeverRealms fighter in the world, picking apart the competition in both Mortal Kombat and Injustice, earning championship titles with both series.

Current Pro Players’ Character Choices

When exploring how to break into the pro fighting scene it’s important to look at which characters are being used to win tournaments. Caboose offers a great piece of advice when sizing up your competition, “Look at characters in the top 8 of previous tournaments to see what they did to be successful.” It’s also smart to look at which characters are the most played by the pros, “Right now the most played characters on the pro scene are Black Adam, Aquaman, Atrocitus and Deadshot.”

It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on those characters which aren’t as commonly used as Caboose explains, “The CEO Injustice 2 fighting championship was won with Scarecrow, this was the second major tournament for Injustice 2 since it’s release. It can be to your advantage to pick a character that is outside the top tier to throw off your opponent.” The use of Scarecrow had Nicolas “WhiteBoi” Andersen walk away with $12K at CEO 2017.

Picking a main for a pro tournament can be a tricky proposition but Caboose gives us a rundown of who is popular and why you should consider them.

Black Adam

Black Adam is a powerful character that is able to dole out plenty of damaging combos, as Caboose explains, “Black Adam features lots of moves that are plus on block, you can really apply lots of pressure to your opponent.” His ranged abilities are also excellent,
“He’s a great full screen character with projectile moves that will cover the entire screen.”

Aquaman

Caboose recommends the Aquatic Ace as a great go to, “Aquaman features really good full screen, great profile moves and his Trident Rush is especially punishing along with Meter Burn and Chip Damage you can really apply continuous pressure to your opponent.”

Atrocitus

Caboose has found Atrocitus is becoming more prevalent in the pro scene with his mix ups and sustained pressure, “He’s great because he relies on a 50/50 which will mix things up with overhead and lows which will keep your opponent guessing.”

Atrocitus also has a furry ace up his sleeve, “He has a trait where he pulls a cat, Dex-Starr, that will apply pressure, lengthen high damaging combos and save you when you are in a vulnerable position with a shield in front of you or shoot a red projectile that will make a negative on block string, plus on block.”

Deadshot

If you are looking for a strong zoning character Caboose has got you covered, “Deadshot is a great full screen character with a ton of full screen attacks, he does great chip damage with his trait by using 3 different bullets: knock down, incendiary and poisonous rounds, the latter will decrease their meter.”

Frame by Frame to Victory

Parting advice from Caboose is centered around frame data and move sets:

“It’s important to look at the frame data, understanding frame data will help you to know your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses even before entering the match. It all comes down to start up frames, frames that are minus on block and positive on block leaving the opponent a chance to attack you in a vulnerable state, continue blocking if your move were to be plus on block.
It’s number crunching, and a lot of it, but if you wanna take that extra step, this is something that you need to invest your time in.”

When it comes to move sets Caboose explains variety is the key to victory, “Go into your character’s move set and start to build muscle memory with their combos, look into your strings to connect to your character’s special moves, learn a few combos where you can mix up your opponent.”
