First debut: Cameo non-playable Injustice: Gods Among Us
Black Manta is a DLC character for Injustice 2 as part of the second fighter pack, which includes Raiden and Hellboy. Although his identity and origins are kept secret, Black Manta is one of Aquaman’s most interesting foes. Not only is he full of rage, trying to avenge his father’s death, but he is also strong. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat, Black Manta is also trained to use weapons with great skill an precision. This allows him to adapt to many different character playstyles. In the right hands, Black Manta can deal out a tremendous amount of damage against his enemies.
Strengths – Able to move around the screen with ease, excellent at attacking opponents from any angel, multiple combo patterns, ability to link normals in the air.
Weaknesses – Difficulty keeping opponents out, holes in strings leave him vulnerable to attack, lack of moves to force opponents into a defensive state.
Black Manta’s uncanny ability to use weapons and tools such as missiles, lasers, harpoon guns, and jetpacks makes him a formidable foe. He possesses a high power laser that he can fire out of his lenses, which deals out a good amount of damage.
Harpoon – Black Manta shoots his harpoon at an enemy to bring them towards himself. This is a long-ranged attack and can be done in the air. If Meter Burned, this move does additional damage. PlayStation 4: Down, Back + X Xbox One: Down, Back + A
Manta Rays – A powerful laser beam is shot from Black Manta’s helmet. If this move is Meter Burned it dishes out more damage. And, can push your opponent to the other side of the screen. PlayStation 4: Back, Forward + Square Xbox One: Back, Forward + X
Rising Tide – Black Manta disappears into the ground and re-appears underneath his opponent to deliver an uppercut. Meter Burning this move knocks your opponent higher into the air with a second hit. PlayStation 4: Down, Forward + X Xbox One: Down, Forward + A
Shark Attack – This move can be performed in the air or on the ground. Black Manta dives across the screen to hit his opponent. If you Meter Burn this move you will inflict extra damage. PlayStation 4: Back, Forward + Triangle Xbox One: Back, Forward +Y
Torpedo Cannon – Another move that can be used in the air. Black Manta blasts a short-ranged homing missile at his opponent. If you Meter Burn this move, a second torpedo is fired PlayStation 4: Down, Back + Triangle Xbox One: Down, Back + Y
Each character in Injustice 2 has a Character Power. It is a strong special move with a long cooldown that should be used to surprise your opponent. Black Manta’s Character Power is called Float and allows him to zip across the screen using his jetpack.
This allows Black Manta to avoid projectiles and fly across the screen to get away from his opponents.
Black Manta’s supermove is known as Speared and Seared and is performed by pressing R2+L2/RT+LT. Manta pulls out his trident, hits his opponent, and then shoves them away with a rocket-powered push. Next, he uses a spear to drag his opponent back towards him. Finally, blasts his opponent with a massive laser beam that leaves his enemy on the ground.
Shark Attack is invincible on start up and makes a great wake up attack. If you Meter Burn the move it does slightly more damage. Be careful, Shark Attack is unsafe if blocked by your opponent.
All of Black Manta’s combos start off with mids or lows. This makes it more important than ever to mix up your gameplay to keep your opponents guessing. Otherwise, your opponents will just crouch to avoid taking damage.
Meter Burning Manta Rays inflicts good chip damage on your opponent and makes Black Manta extremely deadly. It goes full screen and is a perfect projectile to inflict some serious damage.
