Beginner Character Choices

The beauty of Injustice 2 is how accessible it is for novice fighters, while offering a real challenge to those who wish to master the game. Caboose’s first piece of advice to newcomers is to start off with Batman or Superman due to their ease of use and streamlined move sets.

The Dark Knight could be the perfect starter for you, as Caboose explains, “Batman is a very accessible character with lots of low and overhead moves, his combos are also very straight forward, he’s not a complicated character to use.”

Caboose’s second beginner option is the Man of Steel who is great for controlling large parts of the fighting stage with his ranged attacks, “Superman has lots of projectile moves with laser eyes and freezing breath which make him a great pick for zoning your opponent.”

Tackle the Tutorial

Once you choose your hero (or villian) the next order of business is to hit up the Tutorial and start to understand your character’s offensive and defensive abilities.

“The tutorial mode is excellent, and is aimed at new players, it features all the characters in the game.” As Caboose further explains, “Using the tutorial to practice will allow you to look through move sets and begin learning your 1-2-3 combos.”

This will not only add to your fighting arsenal, but completing the tutorials for each character will earn you a silver mother box reward. When you complete the tutorial for all characters you get a big reward with a diamond mother box that can contain a ton of great loot. Getting acquainted with gameplay and move sets will make you a more well rounded player.

The tutorial mode is also great for understanding Environmental Interactions, which allow you to use parts of the fighting stage to deal damage to your opponent. These can be as simple as a wall jump, throwing objects like trash cans, or as complex as massive transitions that shift you and your opponent to a different part of the stage to continue duking it out.

When you are next to, or in front of these zones press RB or X+Y (Xbox One) or R1 or Triangle + Square (PS4) to activate the interaction. For those who love the DC comics universe be sure to keep an eye out for environmental easter eggs as they pop up everywhere.

Practice

Even as a superhero or super villain you require practice in order to dominate your opponent in the fighting arena. Caboose gives us some key tips for aspiring eSports competitors, “Big key things to learn are your highs and lows for both blocking and attacking.” Knowing how to optimize your high and low attacks against opponents and mix them up to keep foes guessing is absolutely key to victory.

Combo Strings

Players looking to become offensive powerhouses need to put in time learning their combos, luckily Injustice 2 makes it a breeze for novice players. I2 allows you to tag your combos so they are available on your screen during the heat of battle. As Caboose explains, “In order to tag combo strings press Y [on Xbox One] or triangle [on PS4] these will show up in the game’s HUD, listed under your characters name.” Another tip from Caboose is to always add variety to your combo strings, “Look at strings and look at the overheads, mid or low move sets. Tag all the low or overhead moves as this is the easiest way to mix up your opponent.”

Online Experience

Once you feel confident with your character, many modes are available for you to dive into, but online play offers many opportunities for you to learn and up your game.

When choosing how to approach your first online experience look no further than the player online match up, “Player matches are better to start off with, you can decline opponents or continue to rematch the same player. This mode also allows you to choose a different characters on the fly.” This mode offers more flexibility than Ranked matches, which is aimed more at experienced players locking you into player choices and unforgivingly tracks your stats.

A special thanks to Caboose XBL for sharing his Injustice 2 insight, game on!
